Cord Garben
German pianist Cord Garben (b. 1943) began his career as a vocal coach at the Staatsoper Hanover. Later he produced numerous Deutsche Grammophon recordings for Fischer-Dieskau, Karajan, Benedetti Michelangeli and Rostropovich, receiving seven GRAMMY® awards for his work. In 1986 Deutsche Grammophon made him Director of Vocal Productions. As pianist he has worked and recorded with some of the greatest singers of our time. He has also conducted radio and symphony orchestras of Berlin, Tokyo and Hamburg including DG recordings with Benedetti Michelangeli as soloist. Garben gives masterclasses in Lied interpretation throughout the world and is author of several books including The Song Cycles of Franz Schubert and a biography of Benedetti Michelangeli. Garben is president of the Johannes Brahms Society in Hamburg.
